Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer

Gary is a senior vice president and chief information officer for CenterPoint Energy. He is responsible for technology operations, solutions, infrastructure and cybersecurity across CenterPoint Energy’s electric transmission and distribution, natural gas distribution and energy services business, which serves more than 5 million customers. He is also responsible for the market operations organization which supports the digital exchange for billions of transactions annually in the Texas electric market.

With nearly 40 years of utility experience, Gary previously worked for TXU Energy, where he led the delivery of customer technology solutions for TXU Energy’s retail, operating and marketing platform, anchored by SAP technology. In his 10 years at Deloitte Consulting, he focused on the firm’s energy practice, providing consulting services on strategy, operations and large-scale implementations of customer, field services and enterprise solutions for regulated and deregulated companies providing electric and gas services.

His energy experience began in 1980 at Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company, a regional regulated utility providing services to customers in Oklahoma and western Arkansas. During his tenure at OG&E, he was involved in the construction of three 550-megawatt power plants as well as the expansion of service and electric facilities across OG&E’s service territory. Gary led OG&E’s transmission, engineering and land management departments where he established innovative methods for life extension of transmission facilities as well as the expansion of new facilities to meet customer growth demands. In 1996, he led the SAP implementation for transmission and distribution operations, field services, facilities and transportation management.

He serves on SAP’s Global Advisory Customer Council for Utilities and several committees for Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and American Gas Association (AGA). He also is a member of the Cyber Security Committee supporting the Greater Houston Partnership and the Houston CIO Advisory Group.

Gary received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Oklahoma State University and is a registered professional engineer and land surveyor.
